“Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.” –1 Timothy 4:16
Hey Juli. I finaly caved in and started a blog. So heres what I think. You do not have to respect views that you know are wrong. What you have to do is respect that person out of love, which we are commanded by God to do (Matthew 5:44). That love will transfer over into a respect for their views.
Glad you finally got a blog. Yes, we should show love as Christ has shown love to us. Good post, but do we really have to have a respect for views which deny God's diety or sovereignty?
Hipathetically speaking if someone is headed for a cliff and don't know it. Should I just "show" them love and respect their view (that says there is no cliff) without saying anything hoping they'll catch the drift that there's a cliff?
I do not think Brian meant to say we should respect other peoples beliefs. He meant we should respect them because we are dark-hearted sinners just like them. Our love will carry over and influence more than if we outrightly told them they were wrong. Good for pointing that out though, Juli.
Right-o Steve-o. But I did not mean to say that you cannot tell people that they are wrong. Sometimes it is appropriate to tell someone their beliefs are downright stupid. However, when you do you should be loving as you tell them how stupid they are. But you are right. It is important to remember that we all are in the same boat of being sinners, even if some of us have been shown that the rescue helocopter coming.
1 Peter 3:15-16a ...but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect...

Sorry, that's "deity," not "diety."
:)
Brian,
Why can't I post comments on your blog?
Just a little slip up. I will fix it.

OOooooo....very good. It is good to be reminded of where we all would be without Christ's atonement. Good point, Brian.

Question: If ignorance is bliss why are people so upset when you tell them what morons they are?
