Stars

This is a giant Hubble Mosaic of the Crab Nebula. Ana has gotten me into the mood of looking at the stars. They are quite beautiful here in the US, however, nothing I've seen here compares to the sky over the Amazon River in Brazil. I got the privilege of seeing the Milky Way so clearly and the Southern Cross so brightly. After a hard day's work, we would bathe in the clear blue water under a black night. I would just lay there on a bed made of smooth, white sand. The moon would shine the brightest light beam through the water, lighting up the sky. The stars....oh, the stars...they were spectacular!

"When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him,and the son of man that you care for him?" Psalm 8:3-4

Julianne: I posted here because I didn't want to start a big debate. I know this is way off topic and please delete this comment if you don't want to answer.

I was wondering where you stood on Women Preaching?

Puritan Belief,

"I posted here because I didn't want to start a big debate."

Thank you for this consideration. Sometimes things get out of hand. :)

I've never had a problem with things getting off topic before.
(Especially good diversions!)

"I was wondering where you stood on Women Preaching?"

1 Timothy 2:13-14 "Let a woman learn in quietness with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; but to be in quietness."

John Piper said, "Paul's argumentation in 1 Timothy 2:11-14 is that men ought to bear primary responsibility for leadership and teaching in the church (that is, be the elders): 1) because in creating man first God taught that men should take responsibility for leadership in relation to woman and 2) because the fall of Adam and Eve shows that the neglect of this divine pattern puts men and women in a more vulnerable position and leads to transgression." (You can find the complete article at http://www.desiringgod.org/library/sermons/89/062589.html)

My take on this (which is always being sanctified) is women should not be in a position (within the church) that would give her authority over men. This would definitely include preaching.

This, however, does not mean that there are no specific roles for women. There are areas where women are needed greatly and are gifted in. This is the beauty of biblical manhood and womenhood! God created us differently, for different purposes.

So, my stand on women preaching is that there shouldn't be any.

Thanks for making me think this through in my own mind.

God bless :)

Everything you say is spot on.

You certainly know your scriptures.
